About The Gull Initiative
A cleaner St Andrews starts with you - and helps our gulls too.
The Gull Initiative was created by BID St Andrews in response to the growing nuisance caused by gulls in our town. Gulls are a well-known – and often unwelcome – part of life in St Andrews. Many people have experienced issues ranging from persistent noise and aggressive behaviour to droppings on people, buildings, and cars, as well as gulls stealing food from cafés and ripping open bins.
The initiative aims to reduce the number of gulls around town through practical, community-led solutions – and you can help make a difference.

Our Vision
A cleaner, safer, and more enjoyable St Andrews – where our streets, businesses, and public spaces are free from gull-related disruption, and the town’s natural beauty and community pride are protected. Results from a Gull Survey commissioned by BID St Andrews found that encouraging small, everyday actions – like using gull proof sacks and responsible waste disposal – we can create lasting change that benefits the whole town.
